STPF Webinar

Webinar Postponed; #ShutDownSTEM

This online event was scheduled for Wednesday, June 10. Instead of holding the webinar as originally planned, AAAS will acknowledge and support #ShutDownSTEM and #ShutDownAcademia. Rather than business as usual, we’re taking time to listen, reflect and amplify the voices of our Black colleagues and struggles within Black communities worldwide.

We will reschedule this webinar, and we look forward to hosting this conversation with STPF fellows. We'll announce a new date and time soon. If you fill out the form you'll be automatically registered for the webinar's new date and time, and will recieve notifications about the webinar.

From Campus to the Nation’s Capital: How Faculty Are Making an Impact as Science Policy Fellows

Are you interested in the intersection of your research or teaching with federal policy? Join us for an upcoming conversation with three AAAS S&T Policy Fellows who spent a year in Washington. Hear how they navigated the sabbatical or leave of absence process at their institution, and balanced their research, teaching and advising responsibilities during their fellowship. You’ll also hear from STPF Director (alumna fellow and mathematician) Jennifer Pearl about the mission, purpose and structure of the fellowship. Join us to hear why you should spend a year applying your expertise to policy, building your network, and developing knowledge you can translate into teaching, partnerships, collaboration and research at your institution.

Panelists:
  • Jessica Libertini (Virginia Military Institute) 2017-18 Executive Branch Fellow, U.S. Department of Defense, Office of the Director of International Cooperation.
  • ConSandra McNeil (Jackson State University) 2018-20 Executive Branch Fellow, National Science Foundation, Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Chris Schaffer (Cornell University) 2012-13 The Optical Society & The International Society for Optical Engineering Congressional Fellow, Office of Representative Edward Markey.
